Maria Opferung Maria Opferung

Maria Opferungskapelle | Gartner Kirchl

on a moraine ledge between the upper and lower gardens

The Gartner Kirchl stands above the main road on the border of the former dioceses of Brixen and Augsburg (until 1816).

The construction was carried out in 1663 on the foundations of an old chapel. Enlarged in 1680 and inaugurated by the Bishop of Brixen.

The altarpiece shows Mary's introduction to the temple by her parents. It is a pilgrimage chapel for young women and mothers. The baroque altar dates from around 1680. In 1832 the Way of the Cross was laid out. Weekly services were held until after World War II. The church was badly damaged by the fighting in 1945.

Renovated again and again in the following years. In 1997 a complete restoration took place under the supervision of the monument office. The renovation was carried out by the Lermoos rifle company and the community.
It is a jewel in terms of art history and landscape.
